Palestinian teen said killed in clashes near Ramallah
Palestinian media says 13-year-old hit in the neck by live fire, 20 others hurt by rubber bullets in same incident
A Palestinian teenager was shot dead by Israeli security forces during a clash at a checkpoint outside the West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday evening, the Palestinian health ministry said.
The ministry identified the fatality as 13-year-old Ahmad Sharake and said approximately 20 other Palestinians were wounded by rubber bullets in the same clash.
The Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported Sharake was killed after he was struck in the neck with a live bullet during the clashes.
Police said the teen was shot with a rubber bullet when he and other protesters hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at troops during the riots near the settlement of Beit El, Army Radio reported.
Sharake, a resident of the nearby Jalazoun refugee camp, was evacuated to Ramallah in critical condition before being pronounced dead.
According to Ma’an, a second Palestinian protester was shot in the leg by live fire, and an additional two people suffered from tear-gas inhalation.
The teen’s death comes as a wave of Palestinian terror attacks targeting Jews, including numerous stabbings, and weeks of clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, threaten to spiral into a full-scale intifada.
