Police arrested a suspected underworld crime boss on the lam for years at Ben-Gurion Airport overnight Monday upon his return to Israel.
Micahel Mor, who police believe ran an organized crime syndicate based in Nahariya, fled the country three years ago and had been hiding out in Thailand, Spain, Romania and South Africa.
His lawyers said they expect him to be released from custody soon, but did not address the charges against him.
Police also suspect that Mor continued to run the organization while he was abroad.
Mor’s organization is suspected in a number of attacks on police and other unsolved assassination attempts in Nahariya.
His name also came up in a law enforcement scandal in which four police officers allegedly plotted to kill him.
