Police officer suspected of bringing attack dog into questioning of minors
Investigations unit opens inquiry into two cases of alleged police brutality in Jerusalem
The police investigations unit has opened a probe into allegations that three police officers from Jerusalem assaulted suspects under their supervision, Channel 2 TV reported Monday.
One officer is suspected of bringing a police attack dog into the room during an investigation of minors. The report gave no details on the identity of the minors.
Two others allegedly beat a suspect while he was in a detention cell and continued to beat him at the police station while his hands and feet were cuffed.
The three officers have been released under restrictive conditions until the end of the investigation.
Israel Police has said in the past that it plans to equip its officers with body cameras to help reduce instances of police violence and to boost public trust toward policing.
It was not clear whether this would extend to police officers at lockups or police stations.
The move to put cameras on officers came after amateur footage in April 2015 showed police beating up an Ethiopian soldier, Damas Pakada, apparently unprovoked. That sparked mass demonstrations nationwide against police brutality and alleged systemic racism.
