Police said Tuesday that they were investigating a suspected attempt to kidnap a 16-year-old girl in the northern city of Pardes Hanna-Karkur.
Police said they received a report of a suspect who tried unsuccessfully to force the teenager into a car trunk while she was out for a run on Sunday. The teen said the suspect grabbed her, lifted her in the air and tried to stuff her in his open trunk. She began to shout for help, alarming the suspect as passersby began to notice. He then decided to flee the scene.
Officers arrived at the scene and met the girl, who didn’t require medical attention, before collecting evidence and searching for the suspect.
No arrests have been made and police notably waited two days before they publicized the incident.
The Pardes Hanna-Karkur municipality announced that it was increasing police patrols in the town following the incident.
