New police footage shows nighttime anti-terror raid in Jenin
Security forces seen searching through homes and alleys of West Bank town during operation against cell behind rabbi's killing
Israeli Border Police on Friday evening released footage from Thursday’s nighttime raid in Jenin, during which security forces targeted the cell that murdered Israeli father-of-six Rabbi Raziel Shevach in a shooting attack.
The videos show various moment’s from the tense operation inside the northern West Bank city, including searches in homes and troops running through streets and back alleys.
Defense officials have acknowledged that the head of the terror cell responsible for Shevach’s January 9 murder managed to escape during the Jenin firefight early Thursday morning.
The raid was carried about by an elite Border Police unit in cooperation with IDF troops and the Shin Bet security service. The forces managed to kill one terrorist and capture two others members of the cell. The army said that at least two others remained at large.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Friday that the terrorist who managed to escape was ‘living like a fleeing dog… on borrowed time.”
The Palestinian heath ministry identified the slain suspect as Ahmad Ismail Muhammad Jarrar, 31.
According to Hamas, cell leader Ahmad Nassar Jarrar, 22, is the son of Nassar Jarrar, who was a senior Hamas commander in the West Bank and leader of the terror group’s forces in Jenin before being killed by Israeli troops in 2002.
