A Palestinian woman was arrested by Border Police officers at a West Bank checkpoint near Jerusalem on Monday, after she was caught with a knife in her bag.

The woman raised the suspicions of security forces as she approached the checkpoint, located close to the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Abu Dis, police said in a statement.

Security camera footage of the incident shows two Border Policemen aiming their weapons at the woman and instructing her to lay down her bag, which she does. One of the police officers then approaches what appears to be a woman’s purse and looks inside, where he finds the knife.

There were no injuries in the incident.

During initial questioning, the suspect confessed that she planned to carry out an attack against security forces, police said. She was arrested and taken in for further investigation.

Tensions in Jerusalem have spiraled in recent months, amid a spate of Palestinian attacks on Jewish Israelis. Twenty-nine Israelis and three foreign nationals have been killed in a wave of Palestinian terrorism and violence since October 2015. Nearly 170 Palestinians have also been killed — some two-thirds of them while attacking Israelis, and the rest during clashes with troops — according to the Israeli army.
