Pride parade stab victim remains in critical condition
Girl, 16, fighting for her life days after attack on marchers at Jerusalem's annual LGBT march
Doctors say a 16-year-old girl who was critically injured in a stabbing attack at the Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem on Thursday remains in life-threatening condition.
Hadassah Ein Kerem’s Dr. Asher Salmon told Army Radio Sunday morning that the girl, who suffered stab wounds to her chest and abdomen, “remains very critical and is fighting for her life.”
Yarden Noy, another stabbing victim hospitalized in critical condition after the attack, is set to be released in the coming days.
On Thursday evening, Yishai Schlissel stabbed six people at the capital’s pride parade, three weeks after he was released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for perpetrating an identical crime a decade ago.
Schlissel, an ultra-Orthodox Jew, was found fit to stand trial on Friday, although he refused legal counsel, saying he did not recognize the legal standing of the court since it did not abide by Jewish law.
Following the stabbing attack attack and Friday’s deadly attack against a Palestinian family, allegedly by Jewish extremists, a number of groups announced an “emergency” rally in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Beersheba on Saturday night condemning violence and incitement.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a pre-recorded clip that aired at the Tel Aviv protest in which he mainly addressed the Jerusalem stabbings.
“We reject this hatred outright,” Netanyahu said. “We will do whatever is necessary to draw the lessons from this [incident]. But the most important lesson is accepting the other even when they are not like you,” he said.
