Prosor warns UN to rein in Hezbollah
Ambassador blasts EU for turning blind eye to terror group; it doesn't take Mother Theresa to see it's no 'social organization'
Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor on Friday warned that the transfer of “game changing weapons” from Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon threatens to “plunge the entire region into instability and violence.”
Addressing a UN Security Council meeting on counter-terrorism, Prosor further lambasted several European countries for refusing to recognize Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, saying that “one does not need to be Mother Theresa to realize that [Hezbollah] is not a social organization.”
“We are facing a situation in which Hezbollah is trying to get its hands on advanced weapons, and [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah himself has admitted so publicly,” Prosor said. “Despite Nasrallah’s words, the EU insists on closing its eyes. Hezbollah continues to operate freely in Europe.”
Prosor also slammed Iran as the world’s foremost exporter of terrorism. “Iranian agents are involved in attacks from Azerbaijan to India, from Thailand to Kenya. Iran finances and equips Hamas in Gaza and helps Hezbollah build up a missile system of unprecedented proportions.”
Prosor said that in recent years terrorism has become a ‘thriving industry” and that it is incumbent on the Security Council to “exercise its full authority to bankrupt this terror industry” in order to avoid worldwide moral bankruptcy.
