Eight year old injured by Purim firecracker

An 8-year old boy suffered burn and blast injuries to his face and fracture when a firework exploded in his hand in the course of Purim celebrations in Tiberias on Tuesday, Ynet reported.

Ron Moriati had his eye operated on Wednesday. However, medical staff believe he might suffer permanent damage to his vision.

Setting off firecrackers is a common practice during the Purim holiday in Israel.

Injuries to children on Purim as a result of playing with explosive devices are common during Purim celebrations, the head of the ophthalmology department at Poriya Hospital said.
