Rock throwing protesters arrested in East Jerusalem
Eleven detained by police near Old City's Damascus Gate in protests against 'ongoing neglect' of capital's Arab neighborhoods
Police arrested eleven people suspected of hurling stones at civilians and vehicles near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City on Tuesday as hundreds of protesters clashed with security forces in the nation’s capital.
Three people, including a 17-year-old girl, were reported to have sustained minor injuries as a result of the violence.
The demonstrators were protesting Israeli authorities’ “ongoing neglect” of East Jerusalem’s Arab neighborhoods, as well as police brutality, Army Radio reported.
Earlier Tuesday, Palestinians threw three Molotov cocktails at an Israeli vehicle in the Etzion Bloc in the West Bank. No injuries or damage were reported.
IDF forces launched a manhunt in the area for the attackers.
The violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem comes in the wake of the murder of an Israeli soldier in Qalqilya last week, as well as another in Hebron on Sunday.
Though IDF officials have asserted that there was no connection between the two terror attacks, and that the latest spike in violent incidents does not signal a long-term escalation of violence in Palestinian areas, the IDF has bolstered patrols in the West Bank.
