Rocks thrown at troops as illegal settlement buildings razed
No injuries as buildings in Oz Zion and Geulat Zion outposts taken down overnight
Security forces demolished four illegal settlement buildings in the West Bank overnight Sunday, dodging stones thrown by Jewish protesters.
Forces razed structures at the Geulat Zion outpost on a hill near the settlement of Shiloh and the Oz Zion outpost near the settlement of Beit El, both north of Ramallah, the Hebrew-language Ynet website reported.
Rioters threw rocks at the forces. There were no injuries but one of the security forces’ vehicles was damaged.
There were no reported arrests.
The Geulat Zion outpost is one of several illegal settlements near the Palestinian of village of Duma, where terrorists, apparently Jewish, firebombed two homes on Friday, killing a toddler and seriously injuring three members of his family.
On Sunday, the cabinet gave the go-ahead for security forces to take any measures necessary to catch the perpetrators and crack down on Jewish terror, including holding suspects without charge.
Authorities have demolished structures in both outposts on at least two previous occasions.
Last week saw hundreds of right-wing protesters clash with police and security forces in the settlement of Beit El against the demolition of the so-called Dreinoff project, a pair of buildings deemed to be situated on private Palestinian land.
The demolitions of the unfinished Dreinoff apartment buildings spurred loud denunciations from some lawmakers, while others protested the violent response of settlers trying to stop authorities from removing the two partially constructed buildings.
The High Court earlier determined that the project had been built on private Palestinian land seized by the IDF in the 1970s and set a deadline of July 30 for implementation.
