Saturday’s results; Sunday’s schedule
Gymnast Shatilov, windsurfer Korzits, look for medals
Windsurfer Lee Korzits was ranked second at the end of Saturday, and on Sunday she’ll have a chance to secure a place on the podium, while Alex Shatilov aims for Israel’s first ever Olympic medal in gymnastics.
Korzits was in second overall place on Saturday, after winning the eight race. With two races remaining before the medal race, Korzits could guarantee her place on the podium on Sunday.
Shahar Tzuberi, who won bronze at the Beijing Games, continued his sub-par performance and was ranked 20th after eight races.
Pole vaulter Jillian Schwartz finished her run at the Summer Games in 18th place, after failing to pass the 150cm mark.
Sprinter Donald Sanford finished the 400-meter dash in 25th place, missing the semifinals. The runner was the center of a bizarre incident — he ran with a different runner’s shoes after his were apparently stolen.
The men’s 470 tandem of Gideon Kliger and Eran Sela finished their third day at sea in 11th place, after taking second place in race number five.
Also on the 470, Vered Busklia and Gili Cohen finished the day in 15th place, after finishing their fourth race in 19th place.
Nofar Edelman finished her races with the Lasor Radial in 30th place.
Sunday, August 5
Alex Shatilov will be in the finals of the floor exercise. This could be the day the first Israeli stands on the Olympic podium in a gymnastics category.
Lee Korzits will sail in races nine and ten. The two-time world champion could guarantee her place on the podium even before the medal race.
Remember: Event times are listed as they appear in London — please make the right adjustments (Israelis add 2 hours; US East Coast residents subtract 5).
