Scottish police arrest 6 for creating anti-Semitic Facebook page

Arrested were charged with breach of the peace with religious and racial aggravations

(JTA) — Six people were arrested in Scotland for creating an anti-Semitic Facebook page.

The five men and a 15-year-old male from Glasgow and East Renfrewshire were arrested May 11, according to reports Wednesday, following complaints from the Jewish community in Giffnock, which was mocked on the Facebook page called “Welcome to Israel, only kidding you’re in Giffnock.”

The page garnered 1,000 likes before it was removed. Many left anti-Semitic comments on the site.

Those arrested were charged with breach of the peace with religious and racial aggravations. They were released on bail and are scheduled for court appearances.

Chief Inspector Alan Murray of the Strathclyde Police called the investigation “complex” and “protracted.”
