Search on for Israeli tourist missing in Nepal
42-year-old father of two failed to return from short hike at Mardi High Camp in Himalayas four days ago
Rescue personnel in Nepal are hunting for an Israeli tourist who failed to return from a hiking trip four days ago, his family said Thursday.
Amit Reichman was vacationing with his girlfriend in the Himalayas before his disappearance. According to his Facebook page, the two spent Rosh Hashanah in Kathmandu and hiked around the area.
Reichman remained in Nepal after his girlfriend returned to Israel on October 14.
Reichman, 42, was last seen October 16 at The Fishtail Guest House at Mardi High Camp. He left for a short hike, taking only a small bag, and leaving all his luggage at the guest house.
Reichman, a father of two, is an engineer at Israeli Aerospace Industries.
The Israeli embassy in Nepal has been notified and are seeking any information. The IAI was also preparing to send a rescue team to Nepal to assist in the search for Reichman.
“The Foreign Ministry is ready to support the family and help locate the missing man,” it said in a statement. “We hope that he will be found healthy and safe.”
Nepal is a popular destination for Israelis, with hundreds hosted every year by Kathmandu Chabad House which is famous for holding the world’s largest Passover seder.
