Settler allegedly attacks Palestinian’s car with an ax
West Bank police say they're 'not familiar' with the incident, though witnesses say they contacted law enforcement
An Israeli attacked a Palestinian man’s truck with an ax outside a West Bank settlement on Wednesday, according to the Rabbis for Human Rights organization.
On the road near the Karnei Shomron settlement in the northern West Bank, the Israeli man approached the vehicle and threw the ax into the windshield, shattering it. No one was injured, Yariv Mohar, spokesperson for the organization, said.
Onlookers called both Israeli and Palestinian police, Mohar said.
However, the Judea and Samaria District, named after the Biblical designation for the West Bank, was “not familiar” with the case, according to a police spokesperson.
The Judea and Samaria District of the Israel Police has been accused of failing to investigate cases of Israeli violence against Palestinians.
From 2005 to 2014, for instance, the Yesh Din human rights organization tracked 1,045 Palestinian complaints against Jewish settlers and found that only 7.4 percent resulted in indictments. From 2013 to 2014, of over 150 complaints filed by Palestinians, only two indictments were made by the Judea and Samaria Police Division.
Under the Oslo Accords, Palestinian police are not allowed to investigate or arrest Israeli citizens.
