Several troops injured when personnel carrier flips during drill
Accident in southern Israel lightly wounds five Golani troops; others brought to hospital for tests, military says
An armored personnel carrier overturned during a military drill on Thursday night, injuring five soldiers, the Israel Defense Forces said.
The Namer APC flipped over at the end of an exercise near the Tze’elim army base in southern Israel, the military said. The soldiers were from the Golani Brigade’s 12th Battalion.
The five soldiers were taken to a hospital for treatment, where they were listed in light condition. Another five soldiers were taken to a hospital for checks, the army said.
The IDF said it was investigating the cause of the accident.
Tanks, APCs, and other armored vehicles have occasionally flipped over during training exercises, sometimes causing serious injury or death.
In September 2017, two IDF soldiers — Lt. Avshalom Armoni and Sgt. Avinoam Cohen — were killed, and four more were injured, when a self-propelled howitzer in which they were traveling flipped over during a late-night training exercise in the Golan Heights.
