Sheepish wedding a success baa none
Couple choose animal enclosure for their nuptial ceremony and get by with a little help from their friends -- the IDF
Why spring for a wedding hall when you can tie the knot surrounded by your favorite sheep, their trough and enough hay for all your guests?
At least that’s what one young couple thought when planning their nuptials at the Tenneh Yarok farm in the Jordan Valley settlement of Rotem on Thursday, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
The mother of the bride, identified only by her first name Tsurit, said that guests were not fazed by the unusual venue.
“They were overwhelmed,” Tsurit enthused. “They came and said how beautiful it was and how it was very ‘Land of Israel-ish.'”
The sheep also got to enjoy the celebration and were given a full load of hay to munch on during the ceremony — “so they wouldn’t make any noise during the important sections,” farm owner Didi Amosi told the paper.
Preparations for the event began a month ago and involved cleaning up the sheep pen to make it fit for, well, a wedding, and putting a dance floor alongside the drinking trough.
The IDF’s Kfir Brigade helped out by providing field refrigerators and other equipment. A generator was borrowed from Kibbutz Meirav.
Making alternative use of unlikely buildings for wedding ceremonies is something of a family tradition. Tsurit was married in a sweet-potato packing factory in the former Gaza settlement of Netzarim in Gush Katif, and the groom’s parents were married on a local basketball court.
