Shin Bet investigating Petah Tikva stabbing as possible terrorism
Assailant remains at large as 60-year-old victim undergoes surgery for serious injuries sustained in attack
The Shin Bet was investigating whether the stabbing of a 60-year-old man in Petah Tikva on Monday was a terror attack.
The assailant managed to flee the scene and police were engaged in a manhunt to bring him into custody.
Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to the city’s Beilinson Hospital in serious condition. He was undergoing surgery for chest wounds, and was unconscious and hooked up to a respirator.
The Magen David Adom emergency service said in a statement that medics arrived at the scene near a bus stop in Petah Tikva and found the victim still fully conscious.
The victim, a resident of the city, does not have a criminal record, according to the Haaretz daily, strengthening initial concerns that the stabbing was nationalistically motivated.
