Sinai terrorists call Egyptian military inhumane, barbaric
Salafi Jihad accuses Egypt's forces of killing civilians, says it defended itself when soldiers raided village on Sunday
CAIRO (AP) — Islamic terrorists in Egypt’s northern Sinai Peninsula have accused the army of acting in a “barbaric, inhumane way” during a raid this week that turned deadly in a local village.
In a new statement, the Salafi Jihad in Sinai said it fought back when troops raided the village last Sunday. It accused forces of shooting at civilians.
One soldier was killed and six others wounded. Two civilians also were injured in the raid that was sparked by an August 5 attack on a military outpost near the Egypt-Israel-Gaza border that left 16 Egyptian soldiers dead. After attacking the Egyptian outpost the terrorists crossed into Israel and were stopped by the IDF.
In the Tuesday night statement that was posted on a website, the Salafi Jihad denied a second time that it was behind that attack. The group is inspired by al-Qaeda.
