Forecasters predicted a roller coaster ride of temperatures in the coming days. Temperatures climbed on Thursday to more than 10° C (18° F) higher than the average for the period — but are likely to plunge next week.

Across the country, warm weather chased away the February cold. In Jerusalem, temperatures were expected to reach around 24° C (75° F), far above the 12° C (54° F) average for the period. Tel Aviv temperatures may reach as high as 30° C (86° F), instead of the 17° C (62° F) average.

By Saturday evening, the heat wave is expected to end precipitously, with temperatures dropping, high winds and rain expected, and, by Tuesday, possible snowfall in Mount Hermon and Jerusalem.

Snow last fell in the capital in early January but quickly melted as temperatures rose.
