Soldier collapses on base, hospitalized in serious condition
Hospital says servicewoman stabilized, being kept in intensive care; cause of collapse not immediately clear
A soldier was hospitalized in serious condition after she collapsed at a base in the south of the country, the army said in a statement.
Hebrew media reported the incident happened at the Zikim military base near the Gaza Strip. It was not immediately clear why the soldier collapsed, but the incident occurred as Israel is the midst of a heat wave.
Magen David Adom paramedics and army medics initially attended to the soldier and then took her to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
“At the hospital the soldier was treated by a multi-specialist team, was stabilized with intensive care, and after imaging and diagnosis was moved in serious condition to the intensive care unit for further treatment,” Hadashot news channel reported citing a statement from the hospital.
In October a female soldier held in an IDF military prison died after collapsing.
The Haaretz newspaper reported at the time that the military opened an investigation into the possibility that the soldier, who was jailed on September 18 on suspicion that she was selling marijuana on her base, did not receive the medical treatment she should have after complaining to an army doctor of chest pains and diarrhea the day before she collapsed.
