Summer vacation in Israel

Whether you want to see the sights, enjoy outdoor activities, or simply relax, summer’s the perfect time to visit Israel

Israel might be a very small country, yet its diverse climate zones lead summertime temperatures to vary across the country. In general, however, Israeli summers are long and hot, lasting from April to October, with very little rain. Tel Aviv and the Mediterranean coastal areas can get very humid, but nevertheless, the beautiful white sandy beaches are a magnet for sun bathers and there’s always the option to cool down in the pristine blue waters.

The capital city of Jerusalem is just an hour’s drive from Tel Aviv. It can be quite a bit cooler here, especially in the evening, making summer an ideal time for a sightseeing tour of this fascinating city.  You may experience an occasional dust storm however which see temperatures rise to 40 degrees or so.

Fun in the sun

The weather in the Galilee region is hot during the summer months, and this sunshine brings with it lots of opportunities for exciting outdoor pursuits. You can enjoy a hike in the Golan Heights or a boat trip on the famous Sea of Galilee. There’s also the option to take a dip in the beautiful Banias stream, or try your hand at rafting and kayaking.

True sun worshipers head down south to Eilat, Israel’s bustling seaside resort located on the Red Sea.  Temperatures get high but visitors can cool down by diving and snorkelling the exquisite coral reef. There’s also a wealth of eateries and entertainment to take advantage of on warm summer evenings.

Check what’s on when you’re planning your summer vacation

Before you book your vacation, check out whether it may clash with major religious holidays or summer festivals. Towards the end of summer, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and Sukkot take place, so Israel is very busy at these times and hotel prices escalate. And for a week in June, Tel Aviv’s famous Pride events take over the city, sealing its reputation as the party capital of the Middle East.

Israel is a hugely popular summer destination so it pays to get your car rental In Israel as well as your accommodation booked early. You can arrange to collect your rental car from the airport, which is situated close to Tel Aviv. Cars are of course fitted with air-conditioning, making them ideal as a form of transport both locally and around the country. Traveling by car allows you to create your own itinerary too, so you can stop off at some of the more out of the way places, and you can travel at your own pace, whether you want a whistle-stop tour or leisurely break.
