Does anyone seriously believe that if the Palestinians had a government with their interests at heart that they would be building tunnels and rockets.
Of course not.
The sad history of the Palestinians is they have always been represented by ‘leaders’ who are more interested in maintaining their power and enhancing their financial position. The classic example is Arafat…who reputedly died a billionaire and whose family now lives in Paris!
Palestinian leadership and the Arab world have for decades been crying out for the rights of the Palestinians. In plain sight , and with the world mute, the Palestinian leadership have failed to give their own people one the most basic of all rights: the right to democracy.
If Israel is serious about stopping the bombing it would use its very considerable power and influence toward a Palestinian governance that is democratic….deploying its superb intelligence and cyber apparatus.
Those giving financial aid to the Palestinians…for example the European Union…should link it to democratic progress. The issue of democratic representation once raised could not be ignored by the world community.
The further advantage of a democratic Palestine to Israel is in the general paradigm: democracies don’t go to war against other democracies.
To those decrying this solution…A simple question: Do you have a better idea?
