Steinitz and Elkin join security cabinet as permanent members

Energy and environmental protection ministers had been sharing a single seat on the high-level forum

Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz and Environmental Protection Minister Ze’ev Elkin both officially joined the security cabinet on Monday as permanent members.

Ministers approved the move, requested by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Steinitz and Elkin had been sharing a single seat at the top ministerial forum for the past two years, on a rotational basis.

The two new permanent members join the cabinet’s other members: Netanyahu, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon, Education Minister Naftali Bennett, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz and Housing Minister Yoav Galant.
