Streets closed for prominent rabbi’s funeral
Rabbi Chaim Greineman of Bnei Brak being buried in the Chazon Ish cemetery on Sunday morning
Police announced that due to the Sunday funeral of Rabbi Chaim Greineman, a prominent religious leader in the ultra-Orthodox Tel Aviv suburb of Bnei Brak, several streets would be closed to traffic.
Starting at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, Ezra, Nehemia and Hazon Ish streets, from Rabbi Dessler Street to Jerusalem Boulevard, were closed by police in expectation of large crowds of funeral attendees.
The ascent from Devora Hanevia to Hiddushei Harim streets was also closed to traffic from 8:00 a.m.
Rabbi Greineman, a jurist and scholar of Jewish religious law, or halacha, is considered a successor to his uncle, Rabbi Avrohom Yeshaya Karelitz – better known as the Chazon Ish after the title of his major work. Greineman died on Friday morning in Bnei Brak.
Greineman was being buried in Bnei Brak’s Chazon Ish Cemetery, named for his teacher.
