Suspects nabbed in daylight kidnapping-killing in Lod
CCTV footage shows three men beating and abducting 38-year-old Issa Debabseh, whose body was later found near Hebron
Three men were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping a man in broad daylight in the central Israeli city of Lod last month and then killing him, police said Wednesday.
In security camera footage obtained by police and released to the public, a white commercial van can be seen hitting 38-year-old Issa Debabseh as he crosses the city’s HaHistadrut Street on May 27.
Three men then get out and begin beating the victim before dragging him into the van with them and fleeing the scene.
Debabseh’s body was found a few hours after the incident near the West Bank city of Hebron.
Fares Antili, 32, from the Bedouin village of Hura, Ibrahim Abu Asida, 31, from Rehovot, and Isa Asasfah, 34, from Bat Yam, faced an arraignment hearing at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where prosecutors requested they remain in custody until proceedings are completed.
A preliminary investigation indicated the murder came amidst a dispute between the victim and a family living in the Palestinian village of Yatta, who hired the three suspects to kill Debabseh, Channel 2 reported.
The men are expected to appear before Lod’s District Court on Sunday to face murder charges.
