Swastikas found painted in Jerusalem synagogue, apartments

Swastikas were found painted on walls throughout the central Jerusalem neighborhood of Nahlaot Wednesday, including inside a synagogue, police said in a statement.

Officers were called to the scene when a worshiper at the Lelov synagogue on Kfar Nahum Street in the neighborhood alerted police to four swastikas painted by vandals on the walls.

Once they arrived, forensic investigators discovered three holy books that had apparently also been set on fire by the vandals.

In a search of the area, officers then identified two additional incidents of swastikas being painted on walls at the entrances to residential buildings.

A preliminary forensic check concluded they were painted by the same perpetrators.

Police have launched an investigation, the statement said, but no suspects have been arrested.
