Police were dispatched to a Jewish school in central Zurich Thursday morning over an unspecified security threat, Swiss media reported.

Officers armed with machine guns blocked off the area around the Machon Chen school, an ultra-Orthodox girls’ high school in the Schoentalstrasse neighborhood in the center of Zurich.

On Wednesday, the school had reported a suspicious vehicle driving on the street of the school and notified police of a suspicious man seen “hanging around” the area, Swiss news site 20 Minuten reported.

The site said one person had been detained and the cordon was expected to be lifted later Thursday morning

A spokesman said the police would be releasing a statement later Thursday.

The alert comes as Geneva has been on security lockdown for several days over fears of a Paris-style attack in the Swiss city.

Approximately 18,000 Jews live in Switzerland, according to the European Jewish Congress. The majority of the community is based in the urban centers of Zurich, Bern and Geneva.
