Gali Tarshansky was released on November 29 as part of a temporary ceasefire deal brokered by Qatar and the United States between Hamas and Israel. This is the story of her capture:

Gali Tarshansky, 13, was taken hostage by Hamas terrorists from her home on Kibbutz Be’eri, as the gunmen waged a massacre, killing more than 100 kibbutz residents and abducting dozens from Be’eri to Gaza.

Gali was in the safe room with her brother, Lior, 15, and their father, Ilya.

When the terrorists entered their safe room, they killed Lior as Gali and Ilya jumped out of the window. Ilya survived and was not taken captive.

The parents are divorced and mother Reuma Aroussi was in her own home on the kibbutz.

The family didn’t know for two weeks what had happened to Lior and Gali, who were considered missing. They found out that Lior’s body had been identified and then Gali was classified as a Hamas hostage.

The two siblings were an inseparable pair, said family members in a video.

Gali is known as a fun-loving child who loves making TikToks, cooking and baking, and playing volleyball with a local team. She’s a dog lover. Her dog, Mocha, was killed by terrorists on October 7.
