Teen stabbed to death over bicycle
Yosef Zohar, 14, found dead in Holon street with knife wounds to his upper body
A 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Wednesday night in what his friends said was a dispute over a bicycle.
Yosef Zohar was found lying on the ground with fatal stab wounds to his upper body near a shopping center on Hatnaim Street in the central city of Holon.
First aid responders who arrived at the scene declared him dead.
Zohar’s mother, Iris, told Channel 2 news that she had heard of the incident from her son’s friends.
“Neighborhood children called me and said that Yosef had been stabbed at the center,” she said. “I ran there but they didn’t let me go to the scene.”
The distraught mother said it took another two hours until her son’s body was removed from the scene.
A friend of Zohar’s, who was not named in the report, said he heard the stabbing was a result of a fight over a bicycle.
“People said he was stabbed because of a bicycle,” he related. “There was a fight so they stabbed him. He was a good person and a good friend.”
Police arrested teenage suspects after the incident but they were later released after it became clear that they were not involved in the stabbing.
Investigators planned to examine security camera footage from the area to try and trace the perpetrators.
