Trump kicks crying baby out of Virginia event
'I love babies,' Republican candidate says. 'Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here,' he adds
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday told the mother of a sobbing baby not to worry about the child’s screams during his speech, telling her “I love babies.”
And then moments later he asked her to leave.
“Don’t worry about that baby. I love babies,” Trump said during an address in Ashburn, Virginia. “Don’t worry about it. I love babies. I hear that baby crying, I like it. What a baby. What a beautiful baby. Don’t worry, don’t worry. The mom’s running around like — don’t worry about it, you know. It’s young and beautiful and healthy and that’s what we want.”
But he quickly insisted he was “only kidding.”
“Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here,” he said to laughter.
“That’s alright. Don’t worry. I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking,” he added.
Politico reported that the woman was asked to leave, but the Associated Press reported that Trump then seemed to suggest that he was joking and that the baby could stay and said the child soon stopped crying.
