A 23-year-old man was indicted Friday at the Haifa District Court for the import of two kilograms (nearly 4.5 pounds) of cocaine from Colombia.

Arua Awad, from the Arab Israeli town of Kfar Yasif in the country’s north, was arrested by police last month.

According to the indictment, Awad was apprehended after arriving to collect a backpack containing the drugs from an undercover cop who had set up a meeting at a restaurant in Haifa’s German Colony neighborhood, the Walla news site reported.

The state prosecution has sought to extend Awad’s remand until the end of legal proceedings.
