Twin brothers killed, 15 injured when bus hits 2 cars in south
Police shut parts of Route 31, known as 'road of blood,' near Bedouin town of Hura; wounded taken to Beersheba hospital
Two people were killed and another 15 were injured Sunday in a collision between a bus and two cars in southern Israel, Israel Police said.
The Ynet news website said that the two victims were twin brothers.
The crash occurred on Route 31, which crisscrosses the northern Negev, near the Bedouin village of Hura. The road is nicknamed “the road of blood” because of the high number of fatal crashes that have occurred there.
Emergency personnel and paramedics from Magen David Adom arrived at the scene of the crash and evacuated 18 people to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba to treat their injuries, Ynet said.
The injured include a young woman in serious condition and a man with moderate injuries. The rest of the wounded sustained light injuries.
A spokesperson for Soroka hospital confirmed that three people from the bus crash were admitted, but gave no other details.
Following the crash, police closed Route 31 in both directions between Hura and the nearby Bedouin town of Kuseife, according to the Walla website.
According to the Israel National Road Safety Authority, 309 people have died so far in car crashes this year, nine more than were killed in road accidents for the whole of 2015.
