Two children, parents seriously hurt in Jerusalem fire; suspect arrested
Neighbor reportedly says blaze near ultra-Orthodox neighborhood close to city center started by Molotov cocktail
A suspect was arrested after an early morning apartment fire in central Jerusalem seriously injured four people, including two children.
The blaze broke out in a building on HaNeviim Street adjacent to the Bikur Holim hospital near the city’s ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighborhood at about 2 a.m.
Two parents, their 9-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son were all hospitalized with serious injuries. The father was reportedly in a life-threatening condition.
Two other people were also treated for more minor injuries stemming from the fire, which was brought under control after about an hour.
Ten others who were in the building at the time were unharmed, a fire official said.
Police arrested one man on suspicion of involvement in the fire, after a neighbor told police the fire was started by a Molotov cocktail thrown at the building, the Ynet news website reported.
The identity of the suspect was not immediately known.
