Two killed in Jerusalem shooting
Security guard enters law firm and guns down the owner and his daughter; suspect caught by police, who cite 'financial dispute' as motive
A man and his daughter were killed Tuesday morning after an assailant opened fire on them in a downtown Jerusalem law firm.
The assailant opened fire in the third-floor office at the Clal building on Jaffa Road, killing Natan Gorno, 55, and his daughter Yamit Gorno, 26.
The two were declared dead at the scene, according to a paramedic who treated them.
A former policeman who was working nearby overpowered the suspect and held him until police arrived, a police spokesman said.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat told Channel 2 that the attack was not an act of terrorism, but rather a “classic criminal incident.”
Police said the man, a security guard, worked nearby — not in the building where the attack took place.
“According to our current assessments this was about a financial dispute between the shooter and the owner of the office. We have no further details,” Jerusalem police spokesman Shmulik Ben Rubi said.
Commander Shaul Naim, who knew the deceased told Army Radio that Natan Gorno was a former police officer.
“He left quite early and learned law and began working in the profession, in particular in matters of collection. His clientelle were based on people who owe, or people who were owed. It is a problematic group. He didn’t have any suspicions of his clients,” he said.
