Two men were found shot to death in their vehicle in northern Israel late Thursday, police said, calling the incident a “suspected double murder.”

Medics said they found the men, Mohammed and Ali Fakhouri, both aged about 25 years old, lifeless in their vehicle and were forced to declare them dead at the scene.

The incident occurred at the Amakim Junction near the town of Kiryat Tivon.

The two brothers are from a family from the nearby town of Nazareth. Hebrew-media reported that the killings appeared to be the result of a dispute between criminals.

A friend close to the brothers told Channel 12 news that the two, both in their 20s, assisted their father in selling cars, and had made plans to meet with someone interested in buying a vehicle.

“At a certain point, they were asked to stop for a moment on the side of the road, they didn’t think too much about it,” he said. Unknown assailants then allegedly sprayed the car with bullets, killing the brothers.

The friend told Channel 12 that Mohammed had never been involved in the underworld and that the murder was likely aimed at harming the older brother, who was “in conflict with all kinds of people.”

The victims’ sister was to marry on Friday evening.

The deaths would be the ninth and tenth homicides in the Arab community in the last two weeks and bring the number killed since the start of the year to 42.

Arab communities have seen a surge in violence in recent years. Many blame the police, who they say have failed to crack down on powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, which includes family feuds, mafia turf wars, and violence against women.
