UN ad for job in ‘Jerusalem, Palestine’ draws fire

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations lashed out at the organization on Monday for posting an advertisement for a project managing job in Jerusalem, which the ad said was in “Palestine (State of).”

The ad was placed by UNOPS, the United Nations Office for Project Services.

Calling on the office to remove the ad, Danny Danon said, “It is unacceptable for UN resources to be used for anti-Israel activity and to attempt to change the facts on the ground.”

The Israeli government relates to the whole of Jerusalem as the country’s capital, but most of the international community, including the UN, considers East Jerusalem — which Israel captured during the 1967 Six Day War — occupied territory. Consequently, it does not recognize the city as Israel’s capital.

Israel frequently locks horns with the UN over resolutions that single it out for criticism, and has welcomed commitments by US President Donald Trump and his ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, to change what they see as the organization’s anti-Israel bias.
