A woman was crushed to death in northern Israel Friday by an electronic gate.

The 57-year-old from Nazareth Illit was on her way to work at a supermarket in the northern city of Migdal Haemek when a heavy electronic gate leading to the store closed on her.

She was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

Hebrew media reports said it appeared she was crushed by the gate after trying to open it.

Police opened an investigation into the incident.

A baby was also badly injured Friday after the car he was traveling in with his parents flipped over on the Route 4 highway.

The 18-month-old’s mother was moderately wounded in the accident, while his father sustained light injuries.
