Woman shot dead in Haifa home; man injured
Victim declared dead at scene; her partner, reported target of attack, escapes with moderate wounds
A woman was shot dead in an apartment in Haifa Thursday, and a man who was with her was moderately injured.
Hebrew media reported that police’s main initial suspicion was that the incident was a failed attempted criminal underworld hit targeting the man, who was said to likely be the victim’s partner.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service said paramedics found the woman with bullet wounds and no signs of life and declared her death at the scene on Arlozorov Street.
The injured man was taken to Rambam Medical Center for treatment, police said. Some Hebrew media reports said he had escaped the apartment and thus managed to survive the alleged attempted assassination.
Police said officers were investigating the shooting and searching the area for suspects.
Indicating the victim was Arab, the Abraham Initiatives, an anti-violence advocacy group, said the incident raised this year’s death toll in the Arab community from violent crime to 162 — more than double the figure for the same period last year — including nine women.
