Work begins on future Migron site

The Binyamin Regional Council brought in bulldozers on Thursday to begin laying the groundwork for what is to be the future site of Migron.

The controversial outpost is to be evacuated by August 1 in accordance with a March ruling by the Supreme Court. Its residents are to be relocated to state-owned land approximately 2 km from the site where the outpost has existed since its establishment in 2001.

The surprise move came one day after settlers residing in a disputed house in Hebron were evacuated by Israeli security forces per the order of Defense Secretary Ehud Barak.

The Binyamin Regional Council did not wait for the Civil Administration’s final approval before beginning work on moving caravan homes to the new Migron site. Sources in the council claim that they have the authority to initiate groundwork in places that have a valid city building plan.
