Israeli windsurfer Shahar Zubari, the bronze medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, secured his spot at this summer’s games on Friday with a win at a Sailing World Cup competition in Medemblik, Holland.

With good weather conditions on his side on day four of the Delta Lloyd Regatta, Zubari claimed a win in the RS:X Class, even before Saturday’s Medal Race.

The 25-year-old Eilat native had been engaged in a four-contest battle against compatriot Nimrod Mashiah to see who would represent Israel in London.

“The weather was not in my favor for the first three [competitions], but here the conditions were perfect for me,” said Zubari after notching two victories on Friday.

“Israel has a great sailing tradition at the Olympic games,” he added. “For me, the Olympics will be my last big event for a while.”
