Berlin: Portal to a living timeline of European history

The hip city of Berlin is a hot spot for Jewish tourism, covering centuries of history and the saga of a nation

As Europe's proverbial phoenix, the hip city of Berlin has constantly remade itself and visiting here is like a portal to a living timeline of European history. Jewish travelers too will find here a breathing museum of Jewish history, from the first community's settlement in the beginning of the 13th century to its role as the hub of Jewish Enlightenment (haskala) thought and culture, its golden age under the Weimar years (1919-1933), to its decimation under the Nazi regime, to new life as a split city under Communism, and its current religious and cultural rejuvenation as the fastest growing Jewish community in Europe.
