On October 7th, Dr. Levy volunteered as a combat doctor on the battlefield, accompanying a unit of 20-year-old commanders, almost the same age as his own children. In the field, he saw the soldiers as friends or even his own kids, but it was difficult when they suddenly became his patients as he treated their injuries.
He reflects on how the war has affected him in many ways—as an Israeli with family living here, as a combat doctor in the field, and as a physician at Sheba treating the most severe cases. One of the severe cases he treated involved two soldiers who suffered irreversible lung injuries. These soldiers later underwent successful lung transplants, highlighting the dedication of Dr. Levy and his team.
Stay tuned as we continue to unveil the stories of Sheba’s remarkable healthcare professionals, revealing how their experiences during this challenging year have shaped their lives and careers.
