4-year-old Maria’s case shows the importance of global collaboration in challenging medical situations. When her doctors in Cyprus were unable to provide the necessary care, they reached out to The Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital at Sheba Medical Center for assistance. With the help of coordination of Sheba’s Global Patient Services, Sheba’s medical team and equipment were sent to Cyprus to ensure Maria received optimal care. She was connected to an ECMO machine and flown safely to Sheba for further treatment.
Led by Pediatric Intensive Care Director Prof. Gideon Paret, Sheba clinicians worked tirelessly to diagnose and treat Maria’s condition. Compassionate care and emotional support were provided to Maria’s parents throughout her treatment journey. We are delighted that Maria’s surgery was successful and that she is now back home with her family. This is a testament to the resilience and strength of the human spirit, and we are honored to have played a part in her recovery.
