DocuNation for the Times of Israel Community continues with our next film, ‘The Great Eagle,’ streaming February 12-19.
The Great Eagle
2017 | 33 Minutes | Uri Rosenwaks | February 12-19, 2026
Delving into the world of Maimonides, the greatest Jewish adjudicator and philosopher, clarifies one thing: if he would suddenly awake and appear in the State of Israel today, he would most certainly be baffled.
Like every myth, and especially one created 800 years ago, everyone today has his own Maimonides, right wing or left wing, intellectuals or rabbis, whether orthodox, religious nationals, or secular.
What were his influences? In what language did he speak and think? What were the events that shaped his life? Above all, what remains of his perceptions among Jews, and current day Judaism?

The first episode of ‘The Great Eagle’ will be available to watch through DocuNation. Access to the other two episodes will be provided to Times of Israel Community members upon request.
Episode 1: Follows Maimonides’ childhood in Cordoba, his escape to Morocco, the Jewish community’s forced conversion to Islam, and his arrival in the Land of Israel.
Episode 2: Depicts Maimonides’ life in Egypt, where he composed his monumental work, the Mishnah Torah.
Episode 3: Discusses the controversies of Maimonides’ philosophical book, The Guide for the Perplexed, and poses difficult questions for contemporary Judaism.
