Blaze that burned homes in West Bank settlement now under control; cigarette flicked from car suspected to be the spark

Emergency responders have gained control over a fire in the Havat Gilad settlement that burned numerous homes, according to a joint statement from the police, fire service and military.

Arson investigators are looking into the source of the blaze, which an initial probe indicates was sparked by an unextinguished cigarette butt flicked to the side of a road. Law enforcement is working to track down the vehicle from which the cigarette butt was hurled.
