Egypt confirms fire at port but makes no mention of drone attack

A statement from Egypt’s petroleum ministry confirms a fire at the port of Damietta but makes no mention of a drone attack, after multiple reports blaming the blaze on a drone.

The oil ministry says two ships used for the processing and storage of gas caught fire in the Egyptian port.

“The situation was handled immediately in accordance with emergency and rapid response plans,” the ministry says, without identifying the cause of the blaze. “The necessary procedures are being taken to assess the implications of the situation.”

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the incident, although Iran has been targeting US assets in many countries in the region, including Jordan, Syria, Iraq and others.
