Investigation into senior IDF officer over Bild leak affair dropped

A criminal investigation into a senior IDF officer who was suspected of passing information to the Prime Minister’s Office about the investigation into a leak of classified documents to the Bild newspaper has been closed, Haaretz reports.

The officer was questioned by police over suspicions he informed an official in the Prime Minister’s Office about the investigation into the Bild leak.

He was questioned after allegations emerged that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s then-chief of staff Tzachi Braverman informed Netanyahu’s former military spokesperson Eli Feldstein that there was an investigation into the leak.

According to the Haaretz report, the police did not have concrete evidence against the officer and only questioned him because he knew of the existence of the Bild investigation.

His phone is still being held by the police due to messages between the officer and Braverman, who is set to be indicted for obstruction of justice over the affair.
