Iran doubles down on insisting that the Strait of Hormuz is again closed to shipping, blaming “illegal movements” by US forces, after US Central Command said that traffic through the waterway was “flowing” as normal.
“Due to the recent illegal movements of the United States military forces in the region, passage through the Strait of Hormuz is currently not possible,” writes Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority, the agency Tehran created in May in an attempt to control shipping through the key strait.
“As soon as stability and calm are restored, all requests will be reviewed based on the schedule, and the necessary permits will be issued,” says PGSA on X.
Iran also fired missiles and drones at Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar earlier today in response to widespread American strikes, as a flare-up with the US continued to erode a ceasefire agreement between the two foes.
