Meeting between Iraqi PM, Saudi crown prince called off after strikes
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA planned visit to Saudi Arabia by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has been indefinitely postponed, two Iraqi government officials say, on condition of anonymity.
Al-Zaidi had been scheduled to travel to Jeddah tomorrow, where he planned to meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
The meeting was called off after Saudi Arabia took part in US strikes targeting Iraq’s Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces paramilitary group, in retaliation for recent attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure and US forces in the region. At least 20 members of the militia were killed in the strikes, it said.
Al-Zaidi has called an emergency meeting of the country’s National Security Council to discuss the strikes.
